Ideas on How to Make the Pro Bowl Meaningful

For a long time now I've been wondering why the Pro Bowl is more boring then most preseason games. Here you have dozens of the best players in the best league playing like amateurs and just taking autographs of each other. I'm not the only one that feels this way. I have a few ideas that would make it a much more followed game and mean something to these standout players.

  1. Award the players with double the paycheck from the league, not the team, the whole year after the Pro-Bowl until they are replaced by other players for that slot the following year. This may increase their incentive to stay, as hard as they can, at the Pro Bowl level.
  2. Award the conference that wins the Pro-Bowl with something like the choice of the ball at the following Super Bowl game.
  3. If a player makes the Pro Bowl he will be eligible to waive a suspension or get a lighter sentence if he violates league rules in any way. ( This one is a tough sell, but some kind of privilege for the Pro Bowler may create an incentive for some players.
That is as much right now that I can think of that would increase interest in the NFL Pro Bowl games. I would love to get some other ideas.

  1. OH, I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. 1st the paycheck that the player gets in the pro-bowl does come from the league and not the team. And would you want to risk getting one of your best player injured and possibly missing part of if not the whole next season on a game that is only played for fun. I would hate to Witten or Ware out for the season because they got hurt in the pro bowl.and waive suspension just for going to the pro bowl I don't think so. If you break the rules you get what you deserve no if's ands or buts about it. I like the pro bowl just the way it is.The pro bowl is more or less for them and to see what it would be like to play with the best players.

  2. Well the paycheck for the winners is in the $30,000 range. Yes indeed from the league but too small. I do understand when you say its really a game for the players, a traditional slack off game.
